In his recent statement, the Secretary Tourism, Arvind Singh has said that during the 2nd Tourism Working Group (TWG) Meeting, a full day event will be organised for the domestic industry partners and Indian states to deliberate on ‘Tourism in Mission Mode: Advantage Adventure Tourism’.
The 2nd Tourism Working Group Meeting will be held at Siliguri/Darjeeling (West Bengal) from April 1 to 3, 2023.
Singh, during his media address added that the Ministry of Tourism is also hosting a Side Event on ‘Adventure Tourism as a vehicle for achieving Sustainable Development Goals’. Seven Northeastern states will also give presentations on adventure Tourism in the side event.
Gabriella Stowell (Vice President) from Adventure Tour Operators Association (ATTA), G20 Delegates and Padma Shri Awardee Ajeet Bajaj, President of Adventure Tour Operators Association of India (ATOAI), have been invited as the panelists.
The Secretary Tourism said that at the second TWG meeting, all the G20 members, invitee countries and international organisations will be discussing deeper and broader aspects of the five priorities of the Tourism Working Group.
These priorities including Green Tourism, Digitalisation, Skills, Tourism MSMEs, Destination Management were introduced in the 1st Tourism Working Group Meeting at Rann of Kutch and were endorsed by all the G20 members, invitee countries and international organisations.A technical tour to Darjeeling, besides the visit to the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (DHR) also known as ‘Toy Train Ride’ and Raj Bhawan have been planned during the TWG Meeting.
The Delegates will also have tea tasting and moonlight tea leaf plucking sessions apart from being given the experience of cultural program and immersive experience of Art & Craft, informed Singh.
The programme will be organised at Chowrasta (The Mall Road), Darjeeling and there will also be display of Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (HMI) products.
“An exhibition will be opened for the general public from April 3 to 5 to increase awareness of India’s G20 Presidency and promotion of sustainable practices under Adventure Tourism at the Mall Road,” he added.
ODOP (One District, One Product) souvenirs from the Burdwan District(Wooden Owl); Malda District (Set of three handkerchiefs) ; Bankura District (Dokra Hook); Kalimpong District (Attar in Wooden Box) of West Bengal would also be showcased highlighted during the event.
